The contest, run by singer-songwriter showcase company fRETfEST, gives young musicians the chance to perform on stage at the 2018 Tamworth Country Music festival, as well as six months of mentoring.
fRETfEST is credited with helping kick-start the careers of successful singer-songwriters, including Pete Murray, Kate Miller-Heidke and Tom Busby of Busby Marou.
Founder of fRETfEST, Al Buchan, said the contest is about recognition.
“It gives young musicians the chance to be recognised, to say, I played at Tamworth,” Mr Buchan said.
“The contest gives these kids a chance to take their aspirations to the next level and hopefully it will lead to a validation of their dreams.”
Mr Buchan encouraged musicians from all genres to enter.
“The contest definitely doesn’t discriminate in terms of genre, every genre is different but what makes this contest great is that it’s real,” he said.
“People sometimes think that just because it’s at the country music festival, that you can only enter if you are a country artist.
“That’s not the case at all, we encourage anybody from any musical background to enter and have a go.”
Entries for the 2017/18 Regional Song Contest open on October 1.
