At a ceremony in council chambers on Monday, Gunnedah Shire Mayor Jamie Chaffey and fellow councillors were on-hand to award 11 community groups and clubs funding grants.
More than $320,000 has been granted since the inception of the section 356 grant in 2006.
Cr Chaffey said council placed all of the communities clubs and groups in high regard and that granting funds was a fun part of the job.
“We place great value on our community groups, what they do for the community is outstanding and opportunities for us to help like this are a really fun part of our job,” Cr Chaffey said.
Among the sporting groups granted funds are Gunnedah Junior Cricket Club who received a grant of $1,800.
Club members Katrina King and Catherine Clarke said the grant was much appreciated and provided great opportunities for the club.
“The funds will go towards installing a shed for the clubs training and game day equipment,” Ms King said.
“We also hope to implement some coaching and scoring courses as well, hopefully by hosting those courses in Gunnedah it will encourage more parents to get involved,” Ms Clarke said.
The Rotary Club of Gunnedah West are one of the community groups awarded a grant and President Kel Walls said the funds will go toward the clubs Pensioners Hill signage upgrades.
“We are very excited to be receiving this grant, it will be coupled with funds from other fundraisers and grants and be used for a complete upgrade of signage at Pensioners Hill,” Mr Walls said.
