Entertainment Works Australia will bring its latest show, Tinsel Town, to town for an evening of dance, song and dazzling costumes, all for a good cause.
This year, GS Kidd Memorial School is hosting the cabaret show with The Gatepost Support Services.
Principal Sharne Turpin said the focus of its past fundraising events had been a new mini-bus but now that the school has one, its next focus is purchasing play equipment.
“We really need some good play equipment for our older students to increase their gross and fine motor skills,” Ms Turpin said.
“A lot of our kids with Autism Spectrum Disorder have poor proprioception – the body’s ability to sense itself in the environment.”
Ms Turpin said the school would love to get climbing equipment such as a rock wall.
“Climbing equipment is really good – you’ve got to have a good sense of perception,” she said.
“When they have an awareness of their own bodies, they will have a better idea of personal space when it comes to other people.”
Ms Turpin said the school had teamed up with The Gatepost for the fundraising event to raise the new organisation’s profile.
“We’ve sent kids there to do equine therapy,” she said.
“Because we have close links, we thought it was a great idea to showcase what they do.”
The principal said Tinsel Town would feature songs from well-known musicals, interactive games, local talent Bryce Ellis, aka “Sheila”, and local musicians in the band Uptown Groove.
“It’s such a fun night and we really want to celebrate diversity in this town,” Ms Turpin said.
“Entertainment Works are an amazing troupe of dancers.
“Just come along and have a good time – young and old.”
The show will kick into gear at 7pm, with tickets still available for $60 each. Soup, damper and a cash bar run by Rotary 2380 will be available. To book, contact GS Kidd or Hartley’s Electrical.
