Preliminary works have begun on installing a roundabout at the intersection of Hunter and Rodney streets.
Council said the intersection is one of the busiest traffic areas in the Gunnedah Shire Local Government area, with on average 5806 vehicle movements per day.
Council said the intersection saw nine reportable accidents in the five years to 2014, but “considerably more” involving minor incidents.
“We are always looking for ways to improve safety for our community and this roundabout will do that by reducing driver speeds through the intersection, reducing delays and assisting with traffic flow,” a council spokeswoman said.
