A tribute concert was held at the “spiritual home” of former band Good Corn Liquor to commemorate two years since member Stu was tragically killed in a car accident on the way to the Boggabri Drovers’ Campfire in 2015. Other band members travelling in the vehicle were severely injured and continue to receive treatment.
Member of local band Streamline, Steve McCauley, organised the event and said there was a “huge” response with hundreds packing into the hotel in memory of Stu.
The former members of Good Corn Liquor, Ben Murphy, Nicholas Wright and Ben McCauley came together once again for the special jam session, supported by Streamline, Alison Forbes and Johanna Hemara.
“The highlight of the day was when Ben Murphy, Ben McCauley and Nick Wright came together to play a brilliant set of Good Corn's original music from their two EPs, bringing back memories of when they were the hottest drawcard in the district,” Steve said.
“It was a wonderful day filled with great music and fond memories of a great mate.
“It proves how much the boys meant to a great many people."
Along with many locals, fans travelled from interstate and Sydney to pay their respects.
Steve said the day was so successful that he was looking to make “Jam for Stu” an annual event on Gunnedah's entertainment calendar.
In their brief career, Good Corn Liquor recorded two EPs of original music, and Steve said they had established themselves as one of the best live acts in the country, playing from Newcastle to Darwin.
The members hailed from Boggabri and Gunnedah, blending bluegrass, rockabilly, and rock and roll into their own style.
