Kelly Robert Taylor is being held in custody in the Parklea Correctional Centre following his arrest by NSW police.
Legal Aid solicitor Fiona Hadlington asked whether he had been extradited from Victoria but Tamworth Local Court was told this week Taylor had fronted Central Local Court in Sydney earlier this month.
“Bail not applied for refused in Sydney,” Magistrate Roger Prowse said examining the court papers.
Ms Hadlington asked for the case, which is being prosecuted by the Director of Public Prosecutions because of the seriousness of the firearms charges, to be adjourned to April.
Kelly is charged with 18 offences including possessing more than three unregistered firearms without a licence – a charge which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment, if convicted.
He’s also facing a charge of possessing more than three unregistered firearms including one that is a prohibited weapon or pistol, as well as 15 other firearm-related charges.
He was not required to enter a plea to the charge of failing to appear in accordance with bail.
Mr Prowse granted the adjournment and warned both sides to be ready for committal proceedings on the next date.
“I would imagine they're ready to go because this is back in 2015,” he said.
Kelly made no application for bail and it was formally refused.
He was granted conditional bail in court in Tamworth in October, 2015, following his arrest by Gunnedah detectives, just days after the police raid.
I would imagine they're ready to go because this is back in 2015.
- Magistrate Roger Prowse
As part of the conditions, Taylor was bailed to live at the 400-acre property at Curlewis where he was arrested and was to report to Gunnedah police.
He was also prohibited from leaving the Gunnedah shire or Tamworth region, or approaching any Australian departure point.
