Council’s decision to allocate $130,000 from the Curlewis Water Supply Restricted Asset for design plans was in response to application requirements of the Building Better Regions Fund. Grant stipulations dictate beneficiaries start project construction within 12 weeks of funding approval.
The pipeline, which would border Wandobah Rd, received unanimous support at council’s March meeting including councillor and firefighter David Moses who was concerned water access and fire threat. “People are going to lose their homes because there is no water pressure,” Cr Moses said.
Cr Colleen Fuller said the project was “long overdue”. Her sentiments were echoed by Cr Owen Hasler who said the project needed every cent. “It’s important we’re shovel ready,” he said. “This job won’t get done unless [funding is made available].”
