The main break occurred around 11.10am and affected the areas of Conadilly, Henry, Barber, Marius, Chandos and Osric streets.
Harvey Norman on Conadilly Street and Gunnedah Lodge on the corner of Bloomfield and Abbott streets experienced low water pressure.
It was a particularly bad time for food outlets as it stretched over the lunchtime period with McDonald’s and The Verdict among the businesses impacted.
On Conadilly Street, the loss of water extended as far west as KFC on the corner of Conadilly and Tempest streets and as far east as Maynestay Motel.
The KFC store was selling food that was already prepared and was close to closing when the water returned around 1pm.
When Gunnedah Shire Council fixed the main and restored water, it took some time for it to become pressurised again.
