The foundation was formed in 2015 with funds raised by Foryths’ staff and matched dollar-for-dollar by the company.
Donations are made to a local charity by each office in the Forsyths’ group (Armidale, Tamworth, Coonabarabran and Gunnedah), along with a major charity donation.
This year $5000 was given to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
It is the first year the Gunnedah office has given to a local organisation.
Gunnedah Forsyths’ principal Jo Kelly said Family Support received an “overwhelming vote” from the company’s staff.
Foundation representative and Forsyths’ employee Megan Ellbourn said the organisation was “the obvious choice”.
“It was chosen by us,” she said.
“Forsyths prides itself on being a family friendly firm and the Gunnedah office is full of young families.”
Ms Ellbourn said the donation would also “help recognise the important work they do in our community”.
Supported playgroup coordinator Di Coker said she was grateful for the assistance.
“I’d just like to thank Forsyths because we need new equipment and our funding doesn’t allow us to get new stuff, unfortunately,” she said.
Ms Coker said the only hard thing about receiving the money was narrowing down the list of equipment she hoped to get for the playgroup.
“Now I just have to decide,” she said.
The playgroup was held weekly, with an average of around eight children attending with their parents.
Ms Coker said there was currently limited outdoor equipment for the children to play with in the backyard of the Gunnedah Family Support building.
“The kids are going to love it,” she said.
The Gunnedah Family Support playgroup is on Wednesdays from 10am-12pm.
