Construction at the Maitland Street facility will involve an extension to the existing concrete slab, installation of a new access ramp as well as new canteen and amenities provisions.
Gunnedah Junior Cricket Association is one of the big users of the current amenities block.
Association secretary Katrina King said junior teams use the facilities every week for up to five months during the cricket season.
“We use it for storage and for our canteen mainly,” she said.
Katrina welcomed the addition of more facilities to the sporting precinct which would build on new road works in the immediate area.
“We’re so happy to have some parking… before when it rained we couldn’t do anything there,” she said, referring the previously unsealed dirt car park.

She was of the understanding the new amenities block would mainly cater to clubs moving from John Longmuir Playing Fields under the new sporting facility use allocation.
The site is classed as being in a flood fringe area but is not expected to impact the flood potential of the site or surrounding allotments, according to council.
