About 40 current and past members gathered at the Lions Hall last Tuesday to catch up and reflect on memories. The Narrabri Group was also invited, with a number attending.
Convener Olwyn Jones said she was amazed by the turn-out and the whole idea of the anniversary event was to “mix and mingle”.
Ms Jones gave a quick address, mentioning all the items on display in the hall, encouraging the audience to look back on work they had done. Pieces from 25 guild tutors who had spent time in Gunnedah were also on display.
“We have a good core number of members who were at our first meeting 20 years ago who are still here today,” Ms Jones told the audience.
Chairwoman of Capital Campaign team, Wendy Schmid, travelled from Sydney to attend the anniversary and explained the renovations which will be taking place at the guild’s building in Concord West.
When completed, the building will be a Centre of Excellence for the advancement of embroidery and embellished textiles.
“I’ve made friends with lots of you... and I really appreciate your support,” Ms Schmid said.
“The fund-raising from Narrabri and Gunnedah has made such a difference.”
Ms Jones said the Narrabri Group was formed more than 30 years ago and had been “partners” with the Gunnedah Group since its beginnings.
Following the speeches, the Gunnedah Group’s oldest original member, Gwen Riordan, and the most recent member, Jenny Button, cut the anniversary cake.
