To that end, the new Gunnedah Red Devils under-18 co-coach is taking a pro-active approach with fellow mentor, Matt Hannay.
The pair is on the lookout for new and returning junior rugby players to join the Red Devils ranks this year.
No experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn, have fun and be prepared for a competitive season.
An U18 Central North Rugby competition ran last year but without Gunnedah fielding a team. Instead, local players in search of a match were forced to side with rival clubs in neighbouring towns.
Tamworth dominated the 2015 season, represented by two sides in a four-team league. Tamworth Pirates defeated Barraba 25-21 in the final.
This year, all going to plan, U18s rugby will return to Gunnedah and help re-establish the club's presence on the regional, junior competition scene.
"We want to get a bit of pride back in the jersey," Bain said.
The training agenda features some rugby basics, like skills and technique, mixed with a few different aspects like nutrition, team respect, rugby culture and being proud of the town they play for.
Bain has played both league and union over the years but said the idea of giving back to the club and helping develop the next generation of rugby player, was his main motivation for taking on the coaching role.
The coaches invite all interested U18 players to join them for training at the Gunnedah Rugby Club on Monday and Thursday evenings, 7-8pm. Or for more information phone Brendan on 0457 433 100.
