A total fire ban has been declared for Gunnedah on November 27, as well as for Gwydir, Inverell, Liverpool Plains and Tamworth.
Under a total fire ban, no fire can be lit in the open and all fire permits are suspended, including incinerators and barbecues that burn solid fuel.
There is also a ban on general purpose welding, grinding, soldering or gas cutting in the open.
Yesterday, the maximum hovered around 37 degrees.
Tomorrow is expected to see a return to slightly cooler weather, with an expected maximum of 34 degrees, before the mercury starts to rise again to reach 38 next Tuesday.
Saturday’s maximum is predicted to be 35 degrees, with 36 on Sunday.
Gunnedah’s hottest day so far this year was March 20, when the temperature reached 40.4 degrees, closely followed by last Friday’s temperature of 40.1 degrees.
