The race was on to see which real estate agents would become the “biggest losers” in a six-week health and fitness challenge ending on Friday.
Lauren lost the highest percentage of her original body weight with a 9.4 per cent loss, closely followed by Sally Baldwin of Baldwin’s Real Estate, who weighed-in at 9.3 per cent lighter.
Lauren took home $600 in prize money.
“A big thank you to First National for organising the competition,” Lauren said.
“The agencies really embraced the challenge and a competition is always a great way to lose weight.”
The principals of each business were committed to contribute $5 for every kilogram lost by their staff to give to the real estate agent with the highest loss to donate to the charity of their choice.
Baldwin Real Estate received the highest percentage loss for a business and chose to donate the funds to Riding for Disabled.
All participants were required to weigh-in at Peak Fitness and received handy health and fitness tips from personal trainer Pamela de Groot.
“It has been so impressive to see the improvements that these professionals have made to their health. Peak Fitness provided all businesses with meal plans and recipes, educational articles about the habits of healthy people and offered a week’s free membership to our gym,” Pamela said.
“One contestant even committed to 5am personal training sessions three days per week.
“No matter how big or small the changes were that each team made, every contestant has created a positive difference to their health during the competition.
“The most exciting part though was listening to the conversations among contestants. Not only was there a wonderful amount of support for one another, but many are using this as a kick-start to a healthier future.”
Lakeford Real Estate agent John Harford reported a mentality change in his staff.
“Everyone encouraged and supported each other to reach their goals, it became a lifestyle change in the end,” he said.
Participants reported giving up alcohol, sugar, counting calories, pounding the pavement, portion control, joining the gym and going paleo as their keys to successful weight loss.
First National general manager Lesley Rattenbury said they hoped to make the weight loss challenge an annual event in Gunnedah.
