I started my working life at the age of 16 as a civilian working for the navy at Garden Island dockyards in Sydney, first as a apprentice fitter and turner then a second trade course as a diesel mechanic in marine and stationary/vehicle applications.
Orginally born in Parkes NSW, living on and off the land as a child and teenager, I moved back to Parkes taking up a position as a mechanic for a Chamberlain, John Deere franchise in the early 1970s.
Now living in Gunnedah, I’ve been involved in the mining industry, with the employment of another JD agency and a hydraulic company.
In the past 32 years living in Gunnedah, I’ve seen coal mines come and go.
After a recent trip to Goulburn via Crookwell and seeing the wind farms in the region and the docos on them, I cannot see why people are against them.
I’m not a greenie or against mines, but when they want to mine prime land and water areas, there should be an alternative.
China is not the “be all and end all” of this country’s future, as some one wrote, how many Gunnedah people will be employed?
It’s about time our council pulled their heads out of what was in the 1930s and started looking towards the future in renewable engery.
At least when Adam Marshall was mayor, this town had a bit of go-ahead, now all the old cronies are back in charge and all they can see is let’s live in the 1980-90s again
It won’t happen Mr Hasler and your team, China can find somewhere else, not prime agricultural land.
