A driving force behind the concept was parent Cindy Keam who suggested a makeover to principal Chad Kentwell last term.
After some research, discussion and planning, a small team set about clearing the room to allow the white walls to be painted and a number of fixtures and decorations added, such as mini shelves for artwork and a kaleidoscope of floating butterflies.
Student artworks adorn the walls, with every child’s artistic effort on display.
The project took about two weeks to complete, with the finished product revealed yesterday morning to students and their parents and younger siblings.
Year three and four students were particularly excited to get back into the library to borrow books and explore the cupboard full of board games donated by parents.
The open-plan space allows students to set-up small plastic tables to play board games or do colouring-in. There are also numerous plush animal cushions and a lounge, so students can find a comfortable spot to read a book.
The library will now be open to students every lunchtime, so they can take advantage of the multipurpose room.
Mr Kentwell said the refurbishment had opened the space right up and he was excited by the changes.
“It’s such a great learning space now. It’s engaging, it’s fun, it’s exciting,” he said.
Mr Kentwell said he was glad members of the school community felt they could approach him with ideas and wanted to give their time and resources to improve the school environment.
“Everyone’s just pitched in,” he said.
“It’s been a real school community effort and team effort.
“It just goes to show how positive people are about the school and want to make it a better place.”
