Trained by Gunnedah’s Graham Shields, he is one of two local horses nominated for Saturday’s Wean Picnic Cup (1600m).
Also in the mix is the Gavin Groth-trained Blu Boy Jag.
Just as Dapper will hope he can turn his run of sevens into a one for Cup day.
In the last year he has finished seventh on seven occasions including five consecutive sevenths early this year and a last start seventh at Walgett on June 13.
If that was enough, the bay gelding is also seven years old.
“I don’t want him to finish seventh this weekend,” Shields said.
He does enjoy the picnic meets though, the trainer added, and is a previous Wean, Mallawa and Come by Chance Picnic Cup starter.
Also in his favour is a good 2015 Wean preparation.
“He worked well this morning [Wednesday],” Shields said.
The family horse will join a few others from the Shield stable he is banking “should get a start” on Saturday.
