The two-year-old pup came within a whisker of scooping top prize without lifting a paw until a late flurry of four-legged entries put his title claims on hold.
Quint jumped well and was a finalist on Saturday for Destanie from Mullaley.
“He’s pretty enthusiastic, he’s always jumping on the ute,” Destanie said, who reckoned young Quint would grow into more labrador than kelpie when he’s older.
This year’s winning dog was a border collie-cross named Rose, who jumped 6.3 feet.
Handlers Gorden and Gillian Harris from Premer said it was only the second time three-year-old Rose had competed in an official capacity, but was a regular jumper back on the farm
