Sergeant Jacob Cantwell said two stores had made official complaints and issued banning notices on the children.
“If young people are coming into your stores being a nuisance, contact police,” Sergeant Cantwell said.
“Identities can be confirmed by police and we can serve a notice on your behalf in front of their parents, but it must be issued by the store owners.”
Sergeant Cantwell said police removed three children from the CBD area yesterday and issued move along notices after complaints were made.
“We encourage store owners to contact police – we want to take action so we need to know about it,” Sergeant Cantwell said.
“If children return after a banning notice they can be charged with trespassing.”
He said the latest incidents reported to police had been in relation to the same group of youths.
“There are repeat offenders who have been issued the notices so they are just moving further along the street,” Sergeant Cantwell said.
“They are going into businesses for no reason at all and just being a general nuisance.
“We need to get the ball rolling on getting these kids off the streets, but we need the community’s help – report them.”
