Former Gunnedah Mayor Adam Marshall has been appointed as an Acting Speaker during Parliamentary sittings of the NSW Legislative Assembly.

The Member for Northern Tablelands yesterday received briefings on his new role, after Speaker Shelley Hancock made the announcement about Mr Marshall’s appointment to the Speaker’s Panel after Question Time in Parliament.
“I’ve chaired a lot of meetings in my time as a Mayor and as head of various boards but this is a new ball game,” he said.
“There are a lot of protocols to familiarise myself with as well as the many procedures and duties involved with my new role in the Parliament.”
Starting this evening, Mr Marshall will regularly act as the Speaker during Parliamentary sittings, chairing business sessions and debates on legislation in the Legislative Assembly.
“I’m looking forward to my new role and serving the House as best I can,” the MP said.
“I have a deep respect for the institution of Parliament and the processes of democracy and will do all in my power to upheld them in the interests of the people we represent and the members who serve them.”
Speaker Hancock congratulated Mr Marshall on his appointment today.
“Adam has quickly displayed his abilities in the Parliament through his strong representation of his local electorate and continues to be a strong representative for regional New South Wales,” she said.
“I look forward to working with Adam in his new role presiding over debates, statements and questions in the Legislative Assembly Chamber, Australia’s oldest Parliament.”
In terms of local representation Mr Marshall said the new role would be confined to Parliamentary sessions would not keep him in Sydney more often than before.
“I can still speak on the floor of Parliament just as I have been during the last 11 months since my election and anyone who knows me would be well aware I would never be willing to forgo my say on the floor of the House,” he said.
