It has been four long years since Steve Caunt last took the steering wheel at Gunnedah Speedway but he recalls the memorable visit like it was yesterday.
“I remember I won the Formula 500 feature in Gunnedah that day,” Steve said.
On Saturday night, the former World Series Sprintcar driver will return to the Gunnedah track but this time it will be different.
This weekend will be one of the first he has raced alongside son, Kyle, who will belt up alongside his dad in the Steve Caunt Racing team’s second sprintcar nomination.
“(Kyle) is very smooth and very fast,” Steve said.
“He was second in the feature two weeks ago.
“But this will be a new experience for him because he’s never raced with a fence.”
Steve said the youngster is more accustomed to the wide metropolitan circuits, where the fence is further away.
“The key will be to stay out of trouble and be on the front row.”

“Gunnedah is a pretty tricky track,” he said.
“Turn one and two are real tight; three and four are more conventional speedway corners but still tough.
“You never know what’s going to happen at small tracks like Gunnedah.
“The key will be to stay out of trouble and be on the front row.”
The speedway veteran placed 12th in his last start in Sydney after what has been a fairly light season for Steve due to business commitments.
Gunnedah Speedway has attracted healthy nomination numbers for Saturday’s night racing which will also include the Super Sedans, Street Stocks, Four-Cylinders, Juniors and Fender Benders.
