A 10-unit retirement village targeted at the over 55-year-old independent living sector will be built on the site of the former Lutheran Church on the corner of Stock Road and Rodney Street.

Construction of the village is expected to begin in March next year, with tenders being put out to building firms in the next month.
Four of the ten units in the Killarney Vale Retirement Village project, run by Lutheran Aged Care Gunnedah, have already been sold.
The village aims to provide a secure and supported living environment within a strong community atmosphere.
Chairperson of the project, Anne Riordan, said the interest in the early stages of the project has been amazing.
“We only put a sign up on the block two weeks ago and we’ve already had a lot of phone calls about the development,” she said.
Mrs Riordan said the village will help with the growing demand for local but secure independent living options.
The 10-unit village is an extension to an existing four-villa complex, which was built by the group in 2000.
The removal of the Lutheran Church from the site by local doctor Chris Gitteos during 2012 has allowed for the next stage of the project to begin.
“We are building something that I’d like to live in.
“There will be a community chapel/hall, covered barbecue area and common area to entertain family,” she said.
The open plan units will feature nine foot ceilings with a rear courtyard and porch area. They will also include clever touches such as lever door handles and ‘smart glass’ laminated windows.
Mrs Riordan said one of the other important aspects of the village is the peace of mind in knowing everything will be well looked after if you go away.
“The units are completely secure when you go away and everything is done for you,” she said.
