The dry weather means ratepayers in Gunnedah, Curlewis, Mullaley and Tambar Springs can use only fixed hoses and sprinklers in their gardens between 6-8am and 6-10pm each day.
Restrictions have been in place for a month, and Mayor Owen Hasler said it’s more of an education and awareness campaign at this stage, with little policing.
“We’re not overly policing it to catch people out” he said.
“We are asking people to comply willingly and at the same time, be aware about how you use water.”
Gunnedah pumps the majority of water from a series of bores along Orange Grove Road.
Restrictions may tighten depending on the dry weather, however at this stage the capacity is sitting at sustainable levels.
There was however, indications of sand detected in one of
the Orange Grove Road bores recently, but Cr Hasler said it is uncertain if water supplies will be affected.
A report will be put to councillors at committee meetings next week following more testing.
Gunnedah Shire Council has partnered with the SaveWater Alliance to give residents tips and information on ways to save water and money.
