Chief Operating Officer of Idemitsu Australia Resources, Rod Bridges, said the construction phase would generate approximately 500 jobs and involve the construction of permanent facilities for the mine,
including a coal handling preparation plant, high voltage power transmission lines and an 18 kilometre railway loop to connect the mine directly with the main railway line to Newcastle.
“Heavy earth moving machinery will be used during the construction phase, which is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2015,” Mr Bridges said.
Mr Bridges said the construction phase would provide additional opportunities for local residents and the large number of contractors who rely on the operation of the mine for employment.
“Boggabri Coal Mine is a long-standing member of the local community, and we understand the importance of the extension project to the growth and sustainability of the region,” he said.
“We are committed to working with all stakeholders to ensure the proactive management of the significant economic, environment and community benefits expected to be generated through the extension project,” he concluded.
