The education day, which is a joint venture of Tamworth Regional Landcare Association (TRLA) and Gunnedah Urban Landcare Group (GULG) will be fun and informative, with a practical focus.

The morning session will include presentations by local experts including well respected environmental educator, Paul Moxon who will speak to the benefits of planting diverse native vegetation to enhance local biodiversity.

Mark Kesby, GULG President, will describe his key tips for on-farm revegetation for koalas. "Our local koala population has taken a hit over the last decade, which has prompted many people to think about what they can do to help".

Co-organiser, Penny Milson said the day will attempt to answer some of the common questions asked by landholders and community such as "what do koalas eat?", "what tree is that in my paddock" and "what can we do to help koalas, birds and other wildlife?"

Participants will also have the opportunity to hear landholder experiences and see first-hand the features of farm revegetation projects at the two farm tours planned for the afternoon session.

The event will also celebrate the achievements of 16 local landholders who collectively planted 10,000 trees as part of the NSW Government funded 'Habitat Restoration for Gunnedah & Liverpool Plains Koalas' (2017 - 2021).

"Our koalas face an uncertain future, but it's not too late. We are appealing to local landholders and interested community to join the push to help turn things around," said Mr Kesby.
