The NVI contacted all nine of the recently elected councillors to ask if they were going to nominate for either leadership position.
Councillors Colleen Fuller, Rob Hooke, and Ann Luke said they have nominated for deputy mayor, and Cr Jamie Chaffey will put up his hand again for mayor.
Councillors Juliana McArthur, Kate McGrath and Murray O'Keefe said they have not nominated for either position, and Cr Robert Hoddle chose not to comment. Cr David Moses could not be contacted at the time of publication.
Cr Chaffey and Cr Fuller garnered plenty of support in the recent elections, but Cr Fuller said she would support Cr Chaffey in his bid for mayor.
"Jamie beat me fair and square. I'm supporting him in his endeavour ... the community have spoken. He got the vote and I respect that as councillor," Cr Fuller said.
Cr Chaffey was mayor of the shire for five years - he was first elected in 2016 and was re-elected in from 2020. Cr Fuller was deputy mayor from 2008 until 2012.
