Some 12 years after his family relocated to Gunnedah from Moree, the goal-orientated Court House allrounder is about turn 23 and has his "sh*t together", as he so succinctly put it.
"I strive pretty hard to do the best in keeping what I wanna get," he said.
One of the things Cleal really wanted was a home, which he achieved mid this year - about the same time he started seeing Maddy Moore.
Moore, who hails from Sydney, was living in Greta at the time.

She now lives with Cleal. And, like him, she is an operator at Whitehaven Coal's Maules Creek mine.
"I've got a new partner and I bought a house and all that. So life's treating me pretty well." Cleal said, adding that he "worked pretty hard" to get the property.
Having someone to share the home with was "a bonus", he said.
Balancing out Cleal's life his cricket. Opening the batting at Wolseley Oval on Saturday, he scored a 43-ball 32 as Court House beat Mornington by 70 runs in a one-dayer. It was their first win of the season.
The off-spinner finished with 0-27 off eight overs.
"Getting sh*t scores in cricket," he replied when asked what makes him unhappy.
He added: "You go through rough patches in life. You ride the waves of life, I suppose."
At the moment, it is smooth sailing for Brodie Cleal.
