Despite delays caused by recent wet weather, council said the contractors were rising to these challenges with permission sought, and granted, to work every second weekend on the project.

To date, the pipelines have been laid using excavators, but council expects the contractors will employ a purpose-built trencher to prepare the trench for the pipeline, as it works its way to the proposed site of the new Water Treatment Plant below the wall of the new Quipolly Dam.

Work on the foundations for a new reservoir in Werris Creek has also begun with the contractors, Gongues who have been preparing the base slab for the tank.

Solid progress has been made with the Water Treatment Plant design, now in its final stages, allowing the council to submit its design to the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment for a Section 60 approval in the new year.

The Quipolly Water Project contract has been funded with grants of $15 million from the Federal Government, $10 million from the NSW Government and a contribution of $7.5 million from the Liverpool Plains Shire Council.

Once completed, the project will provide a secure and consistent supply of water to Werris Creek and provide options for the management of Quirindi's water.

This project is part of the council's economic development strategy.
