Cherries will be affected by a price hike growers are warning about ahead of the festive season. An NSW cherry farmer said the lack of international pickers could mean the fruit won't get off the trees in time. Farmer Guy Gatea said if he's getting $10 a kilo for his cherries, he'd assume the consumer will be paying $20-plus. Experts predict the price increase could occur to more fresh food for similar reasons.

As the national dose deadline looms, the nation's reopening is still a way off. 82.8 per cent of the Australian population over the age of 16 are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Although more than 90 per cent of NSW and the ACT are fully vaccinated and 87 per cent of eligible Victorians are fully vaccinated, South Australia, Queensland and Western Australia are lagging behind.
