Our Harry Potter afternoons were a prelude to our new programme, held every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. The programme is called Make it!, and it's a fun hour long activity session for anyone aged eight years and over - so all ages welcome!
Come along and take part in any number of crafty, creative activities, which can include rock painting, paper folding, drawing, fabric painting, and much, much more!
There's a $3 charge per participant and the next session will be on Wednesday November 24, at 3:30pm. Participants will be shown how to turn an old book into a hedgehog that can hold business cards, Christmas cards, or bookmarks!
If you'd like to come along and learn a fascinating new and interesting handicraft, please ring 67402190 to book a place, as numbers are limited.
Spotlight: More LOTE Online for Kids !
LOTE has just been updated and three more languages have been added to their already list of stories in Languages Other Than English. The new languages are Finnish, Somali and Ukrainian.
Remember, all books are bilingual, so you can listen in English as well as the language of your choice.
LOTE has also added new activities to their platform. As well as the colouring in pdf pictures, they are have Spot the difference, which will "help develop children's attention to detail in an enjoyable way and also deepen their connection to books ..." and Word Search for older children, which helps "develop vocabulary, language and general problem solving ..."
If you haven't explored LOTE check out the library's eResources page and log in using your Gunnedah Shire Library card - it's that easy!
Spotlight: New Books!
Lots of new books across a broad range of genres have been added to the collection this week.
For young readers there's a set of three 'Discover the Animals of the Oceans', 'Discover the Dinosaurs of the World' and Discover the Animals of the World. These are large format books with flaps to lift that contain further information. There are bright illustrations, and a list of animals in the back of the book.
Older readers might like to tackle 'Across the Risen Sea' a book set in the future, by award winning Australian author Bren MacDibble. Also for young adult readers is Worse Things by Sally Murphy, a book about connections - in verse!
See you soon at the library!
