The region is therefore yet to be subjected to renewed stay-at-home orders, such has been seen in Glen Innes following its recent cases.
NSW recorded 1035 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday and five deaths.
The daily case load spiked in the Hunter New England health district to 45, 15 more than the previous record during the latest Delta strain outbreak.
The Illawarra Shoalhaven health district reported 62 new positive tests and the Central Coast 35, but cases have stabilised in western and far western NSW.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the NSW community had "not long to go now" before the state started reopening in mid-October.
Two people who died with COVID were in their 50s, one person was in their 60s, one person was in their 70s and one person was in their 80s.
One of the fatalities was in the Wollongong area, one in Kiama, two were from south-western Sydney and one from western Sydney.
Of the five people who died with COVID-19, two were not vaccinated, two had received one dose and a woman in her 80s with underlying health conditions had received two doses.

Of the new locally acquired cases reported to 8pm last night:
- 312 are from South Western Sydney Local Health District
- 211 are from Western Sydney LHD
- 126 are from South Eastern Sydney LHD
- 100 are from Sydney LHD
- 62 are from Illawarra Shoalhaven LHD
- 62 are from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD
- 45 are from Hunter New England LHD
- 41 are from Northern Sydney LHD
- 35 are from Central Coast LHD
- nine are from Western NSW LHD
- five are from Southern NSW LHD
- three are from Far West LHD
- one is from Mid North Coast LHD
- three are in correctional settings
- 20 cases are yet to be assigned to an LHD.
NSW has reported 260 COVID-related deaths since June 16.
The state has reached a two-dose vaccination rate of 54 per cent and one in four children aged 12 to 15 have had one dose.
NSW Health's sewage surveillance program has detected fragments of the virus that causes COVID-19 in samples from Oberon in western NSW.
The state has 1232 COVID-19 cases in hospital, including 242 people in intensive care, 122 of whom require ventilation.
