It is the first instalment of four million doses from the other side of the world, with the rest to arrive throughout September.
The 500,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine secured by the federal government from Singapore are now being dispatched around the country after getting the nod of approval from the Therapeutic Goods Administration.
So far, more than 35 per cent of the eligible population aged over 16 is fully vaccinated with two doses.
Vaccine target battle continues
However, there remains a dispute regarding the vaccine targets set in the plan.
West Australian Premier Mark McGowan has long argued that he won't be rushing to open his borders, saying on Sunday it would have to be a vaccination rate of 80 to 90 per cent before he set a date to end restrictions.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has expressed similar reluctance to automatically open her borders once vaccination reaches 80 per cent.
Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein said he has an ambition to get to 90 per cent, but said he will follow the national plan goals of 70 and 80 per cent.
COVID-19 peak looms in NSW
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian will this week release COVID-19 modelling on the looming peak in case numbers and hospitalisations, as the state's vaccination rate reaches 40 per cent.
"All the modelling indicates to us that the peak is likely to be here in the next week or two," the premier said on Sunday.
"The peak in hospitalisation and intensive care is likely to be with us in October."
Dire warning from the UN
The United Nations says the Australian economy will go "up in flames" if it does not act on climate change and commit to a net zero emissions target by 2050.
UN Secretary-General on Climate Action Selwin Hart said if the federal government continued a "business as usual" response to climate change, it would have dire ramifications on Australia's high living standards.
The Paralympics finished last night
The closing ceremony was entitled "Harmonious Cacophony" and involved both able-bodied actors and others with disabilities. The theme was described by organisers as a "world inspired by the Paralympics, one where differences shine."
Retiring swimmer Ellie Cole signed off from the Paralympics in style as Australia's flag bearer.
