The announcement to abandon the meeting scheduled for Saturday was made on Thursday morning after an inspection of the track.
The track was deemed unsuitable for racing.
However, Racing NSW intends to re-schedule a picnic meeting with a date and location to be confirmed.
The Gunnedah meet was meant to be the second-last picnic meeting of the season before the final meeting of 2021/22 is held at Cobar on August 21.
The abandonment is the second at the Riverside Racecourse this month after the July 6 race meeting was called off.
On that occasion, parts of the track were deemed unsuitable for racing as a combination of rain and heavy dews meant the track wasn't able to dry out.
The next race meeting scheduled for the Gunnedah Jockey Club is on August 17.
