Spotlight: Knit and Natter, Colour and Chatter
The weather is getting cooler, and you might be thinking of brushing up on your knitting or crochet skills, learning some simple stitches and techniques to help you knit that long warm scarf.
Or perhaps you just want to relax with some colouring-in with the medium of your choice - colour pencils or crayons, or any of the amazing colouring-in tools available nowadays like glitter pens and fluropens.
Come along on Saturday morning, between 9:30 and 12:30pm for Knit and Natter, Colour and Chatter!
If you want to take part, bring along some needles or a crochet hook and some wool to work on your own projects. If you're a beginner, other members of the group will be happy to advise and assist.
If you're wondering what all the hype about colouring-in is, come along to the library and try before you buy - the library can supply colouring-in pictures for various levels as well as pencils and crayons.
Tea and coffee is also supplied for participants, and games and puzzles are available for use in the library.
Spotlight: Adult non-fiction: Hobbies and Interests
There are plenty of books on knitting, crochet, fabric crafts, drawing, colouring-in and painting in the library's hobbies and interests section. If you're having trouble finding books, just ask the library staff for assistance.
You can even borrow one of the library's community arts books - they are colouring-in books that you can take home, and tackle the colouring-in of one of the pages at your leisure. Just have fun being creative, and then bring the book back, and try another one! There are colouring-in books on oceans, travel, forests, flowers, imaginary creatures and animals available.
How to Crochet: Techniques and Projects for the Complete Beginner by Emma Varnam has easy to follow directions and some simple projects.
100 Hats to Knit & Crochet by Jean Leinhauser and Rita Weiss contains patterns and instructions that are, I am assured, easy for a beginner craftsperson to follow.
A little bit trickier, but great fun and plenty of time before December, is 'Twas the Knits Before Christmas by Fiona Goble. Use the easy to follow instructions to knit the characters from this iconic Christmas poem.
