Liverpool Plains Shire Council (LPSC) is working on the multi-million dollar Werris Creek infrastructure, and stakeholder consultation is also under way.

Councillors will discuss this at the ordinary council meeting on Wednesday.

The council first received a $7,296,000 grant from the state government's Restart NSW funding stream to upgrade numerous streets during stage one of the project.

The funding is a three-way partnership between the state government, LPSC, and Crawfords Freightlines (who run the intermodal rail terminal) for the total project cost of $9,146,000.

South Street, West Street, and Loco Street will be spruced up to provide safe, efficient access to the rail terminal from Werris Creek Road.

Engineering services director Nathan Skelly said the council would be doing an initial seal on these streets and Downton Street to last until the broader project was completed.

"Council will be undertaking these works in the coming weeks," he said.

A tender has now been put out for the design of the whole project. A number of design consultants have already asked for further information, too.

"The deadline for submissions for the design pricing is May 17, with designs expected to take up to six months," Mr Skelly said.

"Contact has also been made with Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) to open the dialogue with them on their requirements and timelines for the consultation with them during the design process.

"Negotiations are also taking place with Whitehaven Coal for the acquisition of the land needed for the new road."

The intermodal facility opened in 2019. Timber from Nundle State Forest makes up the hub's baseload traffic.

Upon opening, it created 25 new jobs in the town.
