The questionnaire is designed to gain a better understanding of people's experiences, and use them to shape a new general practitioner attraction and retention strategy.
The lack of an active GP service has plagued the community for quite a while, and although Hunter New England Health is currently in the process of selecting an operator for the Gunnedah Rural Health Centre, it could still be months before its doors reopen.
Making sure there is an appropriate amount of GPs actually working in the clinic is the next challenge, and Gunnedah Shire Council (GSC) hopes the new survey will assist in solving that problem.
"While health services remain the responsibility of state and federal governments, the Rural Doctors Network strategy will help identify opportunities for advocacy and ensure Gunnedah's health services are a priority for both levels of government," GSC councillor and mayor Jamie Chaffey said.

The survey is confidential and will play a direct role in helping RDN develop immediate, medium and long term solutions to the issues faced by the community.
Participants can complete the survey for themselves, or on behalf of friends and family members.
The Gunnedah Health Service Survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and is available at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CCV5KJY. Responses close on Sunday April 18, 2021.
