Leigh-Ann Barton, who moved to Currabubula in January, has taken on the role although she is no stranger to the education sector.
Possessing a Bachelor of Special Education (Primary) and a Bachelor of Disability Studies, she brings a lot of experience and qualifications to the position.
She most recently worked at Westdale Public School in Tamworth, having transferred from Coffs Harbour Public School.
The service will begin on the 22nd of April, and will be active Monday to Friday.
Ms Barton has family in the region, hence her move, and decided to take leave from her role in Tamworth in order to take on the job with GFDC.
"Now I'm just looking at trying to service the community here because there was a real need for before and after school care, and preschool care," she stated.
Prior to Ms Barton's appointment, manager of GFDC Kerrie Patterson said there had been quite a significant amount of people in the community contacting them about the possibility of having somebody operating in Currabubula.
As of yet, that interest has not quite manifested into genuine expressions of interest, but she is confident the need is there and the numbers will come.
"Certainly there is people requiring vacation care but not so many for that regular before and after school care," she said.
"What we're thinking is that once she's up and running maybe that will change, once people get to know the services there and that it's reliable and high quality."
Ms Patterson is also beginning to advertise the service to those in the Werris Creek area, who may need to travel north-east for work and are able to drop their kids off along the way.
Anybody interested is encouraged to call Gunnedah Family Day Care on 67402281 and they will organise a meet and greet with Ms Barton.
