The film I Am Woman will screen at The Civic next Thursday night to celebrate NSW Women's Week and all proceeds will go towards Allawah Cottage, the women's refuge being built in Gunnedah.
Allawah Cottage committee member Tracey Reid said there was a fantastic turnout of 85 people for the wine and cheese fundraiser.
"Because we had such beautiful support from the Gunnedah community with our raffles, we raised over $700 from raffles alone from local businesses," she said.
"As a follow up, we thought we would give a movie night a go, and it's something that we thought would be interesting especially for Women's Week because the story-line really shows the strength of women.
"It's also about getting all of Gunnedah aware that Allawah Cottage is being built and we will be supporting women not only in Gunnedah but New England North West.
"We will be working with the other crisis accommodation women's shelters in Moree, Narrabri, Tamworth and Armidale."
Builders are due to begin construction on the women's refuge in the next two weeks and the kitchen has just been finalised which will be decked out with plenty of donated items including a new fridge from PRAMS.
- A screening of I Am Woman, hosted by the Allawah Cottage Committee at the Civic Theatre, Chandos Street will begin at 6pm, Thursday, March 11
- Tickets are $20 and are available through Eventbrite.com.au
