And, with the renewed help of Gunnedah Shire Council, they will be able to carry on using the Gunnedah Showground to provide therapy, sport and recreation for local disabled children and adults through horse riding and horse-related activities.

Council determined at February's meeting they would continue to support the valuable contributions of the local volunteer group through subsidising the Crown License Fee for the RDA to use the showground facilities.

Councillor Gae Swain said Gunnedah RDA is a fantastic organisation who have done a "fantastic job for a very long time".

"It's only a very small group, so congratulations for the wonderful work that you're doing," she added.

The not-for-profit organisation covers the cost of the children's fees, and pays to maintain the horses and equipment used by the riders to provide an experience at no cost.
