Flights cheaper than a cab fare
With its first Sydney to Melbourne flights set to launch in just two weeks, Rex Airlines is taking on the air wars with super-low fares on some of Australia's most popular routes.
The airline is set to challenge the big boys, Jetstar and Qantas, and has dropped its Sydney to Melbourne prices to $49 for one-way economy, or "less than a taxi fare" to the airport. Business class one-way flights started from just $199.
The $49 economy fare comes with all the standard inclusions: 7kg of carry-on bags and 23kg of checked-in luggage, as well as refreshments.
Rex's fleet of five Boeing 737 jets, all of which were formerly leased to Virgin Australia, will operate nine return flights per day on one of the world's busiest routes, Sydney-Melbourne.
The Sydney-Brisbane route will be launched in April.
