The annual Australian film festival, Flickerfest, is giving them that opportunity, and Gunnedah locals will again get the chance to see some of their work.
Coming to town later in the month, Flickerfest will be screening movies from the Best of Australian Shorts and Best of International Comedy categories.
The former can be seen at The Civic on Sunday, February 21 at 3pm, and the latter a week later at the same venue.
Among the films that will be on display is Roborovski, which won The Yoram Gross Award For Best Australian Animation at Flickerfest 2021, by actors Tilda Cobham-Hervey and Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) who step behind the camera to direct this animated short about an adorable miniature hamster seeking revenge, penned by Oscar nominated writer John Collee (Happy Feet).

This year represents the event's 30th anniversary - as well as it's 20th anniversary of operation in Gunnedah - and it will screen at 56 theatres across Australia, before travelling to 36 international locations.
Despite COVID-19 restrictions limiting the capabilities of filmmakers in the last 12 months, entries were around the same as previous years, which has pleased organisers.
Gunnedah Shire Council Cultural Precinct team leader Lauren Mackley said she was thrilled the festival was returning to town.
"Flickerfest is a chance to see amazing short films on the big screen before they continue their journey around the world," she said.
"It's a great opportunity to celebrate the passion and creativity of filmmakers during what has been a challenging time for the industry."
Tickets are $15 per session and are available via www.thecivic.com.au. Tickets can be purchased in person from the Civic Cinema in Chandos Street between 10am and 5pm Tuesday to Sunday.
