SOME of Gunnedah shire's most dedicated and selfless residents have been nominated for a 2021 Australia Day award as an acknowledgement of their commitment to the community.

Winners will be announced at the annual Gunnedah Australia Day dinner on January 25, with doors opening at 6:30 pm.
At that dinner, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from former Wallabies star and Gunnedah resident Tim Gavin, who is acting as this year's ambassador. Tickets are available here.
Gunnedah Citizen of the Year Nominees:
Linda Taylor
Linda Taylor is the President of the Gunnedah RSPCA Branch and has been a volunteer and tireless fundraiser for the organisation since 2015. Linda has been recognised as someone who never seeks out accolades, but is driven by her love for animals and passion for the community she grew up in.
Ray Williams
Ray Williams is the President of the P&C at Gunnedah Public School and Treasurer of the Gunnedah & Districts Liquor Accord. Ray was the driving force behind local charity initiatives 'Movember' and 'Pink Up Gunnedah Shire' and is a volunteer for WIRES. Ray has also championed sport in the Gunnedah Shire, helping many local sporting teams secure pub sponsors.
George Truman
George often flies under the radar, but has a long history of community service as the Secretary of the Gunnedah Urban Landcare Group, Treasurer of the Gunnedah Show Society and member of the Community Garden. George is a hard worker with a passion for the environment, having coordinated tree plantings, helped restore the walking track at Porcupine Lookout and installed bird nesting boxes around the Shire. He can always be found behind the BBQ and helping out on Clean Up Australia Day.
Gunnedah Junior Citizen of the Year Nominees:
Marlie Thomas
Marlie is well known for her heartfelt delivery of the Welcome to Country address at various community events. A passionate advocate for climate change action, Marlie spoke at the 2018 'School Strike 4 Climate' event in Sydney, which attracted 80,000 participants. Marlie is a valued member and group leader of Youth Insearch.
Aidan R de Luzuriaga
Aiden has been an active member of the Gunnedah Youth Council and has previously been named Lions Youth of the Year. A high academic achiever, Aiden is Vice-Captain of Gunnedah High School and is always a strong competitor at the Rotary Public Speaking competitions. Outside of school Aiden can be found on the basketball court as an accomplished player and referee.
