A truck rolled and lost its load north of Coonabarabran just after 1pm on Wednesday, causing debris to cover the surface of the road.

The Transport Management Centre confirmed the road reopened to travellers between Coonabarabran and Narrabri shortly before 4pm.

The 40-minute detour was lifted, but authorities urged drivers to be extra careful, as crews remained in the area into the afternoon clearing the crash site and salvaging the truck wreck.

The speed limit was reduced to 40km per hour in the area.

A HIGHWAY has been closed in both directions and a driver has had a lucky escape after a truck rolled near Coonabarabran on Wednesday.

Emergency services were called to a truck crash on the Newell Highway near Dandry, north of Coonabarabran, just after 1pm.

The Newell Highway has been closed to traffic between Narrabri and Coonabarabran and a 40-minute detour is in place.

Ambulance NSW paramedics treated the driver of the truck for minor injuries at the scene, but the driver did not need to be transferred to hospital.

It is understood the trailer of the truck has rolled and the load it was carrying caused the Newell Highway to be covered in debris.

Emergency services, the local council and traffic control crews remain at the scene clearing the crash site.
