Local surveyor Stewarts Surverys, who worked closely with Gunnedah Shire Council and playground equipment supplier Proludic to bring the idea to life, recently accepted a Commended award at the 2020 Kidsafe National Playspace Design Awards in the Public Spaces category.
The design was selected by Kidsafe as one of the top four playgrounds in Australia constructed over the last two years valued between $1-3 million.
The award recognises "excellence and innovation in provision of safe creative playspaces".
Located at Wolseley Park, Livvi's Place was officially opened in December last year after a long push from the community who realised there was a need for an all-abilities facility.
It was only when local mum Ashley Bender - whose son was diagnosed with autism at age 2 - started a petition in 2013 advocating for a safe park, that the idea finally started to get off the ground.
Now the playspace is loved and used by the whole community, with unique features such as an adventure tower with custom koala graphics, a giant spiral tube slide, a climbing wall and net, inclusive trampolines, an accessible recycling truck, and more.
The judges commented that the playspace was a wonderful example of what a vision can do to provide a much loved facility.
"Community consultation was paramount as part of the design process," the judges said.
"This unique playspace provides a great opportunity for diversity in play while providing an all-inclusive, all-abilities playspace."
