Each year the Gunnedah Shire Library creates a resource list for the country chosen. For the list, click here.
This list contains books that the library holds on the particular country, both non-fiction and fiction, and websites such as the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's 'Smart Traveller' page, the embassy/consulate page, the country's government tourism information site and the BBC Country in Focus page.
The library also subscribes to the World Trade Press, a collection of databases which contain information on food, culture, geography, history, national statistics, language and travel about all countries in the world.
Read also:
With World Trade Press databases you can find recipes for authentic meals, snacks and desserts, and find out any customs that go along with them. You can find pictures of national dress, festivals and tourist attractions, learn to speak the language with easy phrase videos, and make many wonderful (and sometimes strange) discoveries about the country in focus.
This year's country of study is Ecuador.
The library has four books in the collection with information about Ecuador.
Clicking on the titles in the resource list will take you to their entry in the library catalogue. You can read about the book and place a reservation on any you would like to look at or borrow.
Not a member of the library yet? Just come in, fill out the simple application form, show some proof of address and you'll be able to access all the library's eResources, borrow books, magazines, DVD's, CD's and graphic novels.
Some interesting items from World Trade Press on Ecuador include political, province and population maps, images of their money, both coins and notes, and explanations of the people or places represented, traditional and modern forms of music, name structure and two crossword puzzles featuring facts about Ecuador.
