Cr Gae Swain made the remark at the November council meeting before councillors voted in favour of installing a sign on the corner of Tempest Street and Conadilly Street.
There were four different options to pick from, but the eight councillors - with deputy mayor Rob Hooke absent - voted for a single-sided sign to be placed on an angle to capture traffic at all sides of the intersection.

Gunnedah Shire Council's economic development officer Emily Wilson wrote in the November business papers that this option would "provide the most consistent visual impact" and that it "services pedestrians and motorists as they are passing through Gunnedah and approaching the CBD location".
"The placement of the sign on the corner of Tempest and Conadilly streets presents the best option from a safety point-of-view and also is not likely to be impacted by future expansion plans of park infrastructure," she wrote.
"By setting this sign on the corner it will not be blocked by parked heavy vehicles and is less impacted by overhead power lines."
Economic development manager Charlotte Hoddle said at the council meeting the design for the sign hadn't been selected, and a consultation process would occur to do so.
The $38,524 project will have $17,962 drawn from the Destination Management Plan Reserve and the remaining $20,562 from General Fund. The additional annual operating costs of $4,780 will also be allocated from General Fund.
The first sign was erected on the corner of Wentworth Street and Conadilly Street in 2014, and after many disagreements, councillors voted at the September council meeting to erect a second sign on the Oxley Highway between the new Boundary Road roundabout and the existing highway roundabout to Quirindi and Tamworth.
This highway sign is set to be installed early 2021 with the guidance of the council's special projects manager Phil Linfield.
The Tempest Street/Conadilly Street sign will be the third and final to be erected in Gunnedah.
