Mr Burns is the newest member of the executive management team at Narrabri Shire Council as the director of infrastructure delivery.
He is set to head up several multi-million-dollar projects such as the Narrabri CBD project, Wee Waa and Boggabri Sewage Treatment Plant upgrades, and the Horsearm and Spring Creek timber bridge replacement projects, among others.
"Since beginning with council, I have been very impressed by the quality and dedication of the teams across the Narrabri Shire," Mr Burns enthused.

With the start of his role in October, he has been getting up to speed with the projects which will make his role an "enjoyable challenge."
General manager Stewart Todd said with Mr Burns' technical career and industry background in leading capital and operational programs across many Australian industries from manufacturing, metal extraction, energy and rail, he will be a valued member of the team.
Mr Burns grew up in Narromine working in the agricultural sector when he was in school, giving him an understanding of the challenges and opportunities for our region. He then embarked on his engineering career.
"We look forward to seeing Shane playing a major role in the delivery of these projects across the community," Mr Todd said.

Mr Burns' wife Gemma, and their two girls Josephine and Emily will be joining him at the end of the school term.
They all enjoy hiking, camping and mountain biking, and said with Narrabri was a terrific place for outdoor recreation.
