Locals are being encouraged to sign up to attend a community day where they can be the first to walk over the 195-metre-long bridge linking the Oxley Highway with Warrabungle Street before it opens to traffic.
Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson said the overpass was the "biggest road infrastructure project Gunnedah has ever seen".
"Gunnedah has been seen as a significant freight pinchpoint in the North West, so we started building this bridge in late 2018 to allow an uninterrupted flow of traffic for heavy vehicles through town in a big boost to freight productivity," he said.
"We are about to hit the finish line, and before we do, I want the community to be the first to check out the new bridge for themselves."

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the community day and walk-over will be a ticketed-only event on Sunday, November 22 between 8am and 3pm.
Those wishing to walk over the bridge will have an allocated one-hour timeslot, but buses will also be available for disabled, elderly or families at 30-minute intervals from the Gunnedah Showground.
The official opening of the bridge will be held at 11am before it opens to traffic the following day, weather permitting, and no timeslots will be available at this time.
The community is reminded to follow social distancing practices and arrive on time for their allocated timeslot.
Attendees are asked to please note there is a steep gradient on the bridge, which could be challenging for some. Parking will be at the Gunnedah Showground, and traffic control will be in place to allow safe access across the Oxley Highway and onto the bridge.
Final finishing works, including the closure of the rail level crossing, remain on track and are expected to be completed in mid-2021, weather permitting.
