Sustainable North West has partnered with councils in Gunnedah and Tamworth to bring the race back to town for the eighth year running.
Tamworth council's sustainability coordinator Tracey Carr said it's great the race can go ahead.
"It is important that we provide as many opportunities as we can for our community, especially young people, to learn about how to live more sustainably," she said.
The race will give students in Gunnedah and Tamworth a series of challenges to teach them about sustainability within a range of subjects, including STEM, agriculture, geography and art.
