Gunnedah Shire Council said it had received a request from specialist contractor Metz not to drain the pool at this stage to fix the leak.
"The contractors are deciding on the best course of action, which may or may not include draining the pool. We are working with them to ensure timing of the repairs does not impact on the pool season," a council spokesperson said.
"The pool is still scheduled to open for the October long weekend."
The potential change of plans comes after the council said testing in April revealed more repairs needed to be done following the main repairs in late 2019. The pool was closed for many months and drained then refilled and reopened on New Year's Day this year.
